We have found some nice pieces. One look’s like it may have bark on it. A bit bigger then a softball. The area that we were in has quit a bit of it on the surface. And not easy to get to. May have found bone in the same spot.

It appears to be chain or social coral. I have several pcs that are similar but not eroded. But it sometimes seems that a lot of our Indiana coral gets dumped into that category. I don’t know how to post pics or I would.

My rock hounding friend and I, have both found petrified wood in Southern Indiana, Primarilly Pike and Gibson Co. We have found it throughout both counties in A wide range of colors, and complexity. It also varies greatly in color, ranging from pink to black with brown being the most prodoment. Some appear to have arrow points knapped off of them and are very dense. They have what appears to be crystals, iron pyrite, sillica, and geode center lookiing stuff in them. They are mostly very hard and dense, but ocassionally flakey. None of them look like the mystery find above however.
