Strange unknown fossil

Can you tell me what this is?

Fossil collected in the Southwest

I found this while I was working in Arizona over 20 years ago. I have always wondered what it was.

It looks like an iron concretion of some sort in sedimentary rock and these often form around fossils. The specific type of fossil may be difficult to identify. Any one have some idea on what it could be?

    Could be a shrimp….although a weathered one.

I think this would be a candidate for X-ray. Check with some of the universities and see if a paleontologist has gotten on the kick of doing X-ray tomography and passing it to a 3-D printer. The picture does give an impression of a coiled crustacean.
Do you happen to remember where you found the fossil?
