I found this while walking on the beach late at night on 11-04-11. I would like to know what it is. The texture apperas very similar to another fossil pictured on this web site found on a beach in Florida.
Fossil Collector: JonathanC
Location: Folly Beach, South Carolina

Your find is definitely a fossil bone fragment, but it may be difficult to determine the type of animal with a fragment like this. Most likely it is from a marine mammal as they are the most common beach find, but we cannot also rule out terrestrial mammals. Not very helpful, I know, but perhaps someone here will recognize it.
Given the depositional environment you would probably be safe assuming that it is marine mammal in origin, likely manatee/dugong or whale. I say this because of the marine Miocene and Oligocene deposits nearby. (I live in Charleston and have found many similar pieces)
Folly is a good place to find stuff after a good storm.
