A handful of fossil squid

Found in a box of sea shells at a yard sale.

Large blemnite fossil

16 fossil belemnites

I found 16 of these in various sizes at a yard sale mixed into a collection of sea shells so I’m assuming they were originally found on a beach.

[Editors note: Well, we had not thought of going fossil collecting at a yard sale, but you seem to have found some goodies. These are fossil belemnites, the internal shells of fossil squid that lived during the Cretaceous Period. They were likely found weathering out of a stream bank or eroded beach cliff. Nice find—keep shopping!]

It is belemnite. This is the part called phragmocone which a heavy solid structure at the posterior of the animals. The rostrum was usually bullet-shaped and projects prominently backward.
