Possible crinoid fossil?

Fossil was found on western shoreline of Lake Michigan two miles north of Glen Arbor, MI.

Possible horn coral fossil?

It was mixed in with a variety of stones at the edge of the surf. The circular feature immediately caught my eye.

Fossil Collector: Scott M.

Location: Glen Arbor, Michigan

[Editor's note: Hmm...the top picture certainly looks like the texture of a crinoid fossil. The second picture could be the cross section of a crinoid, but also looks similar to the base of a horn coral. Any thoughts from Michigan collectors?]

Circle made me think horn coral, but if that other photo is the same piece, I’d guess bryozoan.

I too, would like to be educated with this specimen;for I have one-almost identical!
Mine was found in the southwestern tip of Indiana…I am the one who found it, so I am sure of this. I am also sure about the last glacier bringing (or pushing) a lot of things here that are not supposed to be—according to the books & scientists…LOL.

The top one is not bryozoan. It’s definitely a favosite. The bottom ones is indeed the circle opening of a horn coral. Favosites are often mistaked for Petoskey stones due in part to similar hex patterns, but they are not. The are slang name also charlvoix stoned (favosite) hope that clears it up for u. Side note….. Bryozoan texture looks like that of a peice of netting.
