Tiny drum fish teeth are very durable.

Looking like tiny buttons, these teeth are fit into the dental pavement, a piece of which is shown. Together the tough little teeth make a powerful crushing plate used to crunch up mollusks and crustations just as their modern relatives still do today. These fossil teeth were uncovered in Polk County, Florida.

Ryan looks for fossils at the library

New to Fossil Hunting? Me Too! Watch as Daddy and I Research, Dig, and Find Fossils.

Ryan get down and dirty with florida fossils

sifting for Florida fossilsA hard day fossiling!

Note to readers: Please do not tell Ryan – but Daddy did ‘help’ with the fossils on his fossil hunting adventure. Florida does indeed have a great many fossils – just NOT the fossils pictured in this story for the sake of making the story flow well – these lovely (polished) fossils are from Morocco, North Africa

Ryan the Explorer looks likes he had a fun day! If you would like to see the full story, please visit him at Life of Ryan.

Picture Location: Sarasota, FL

Special thanks to Life of Ryan!
