Virgina trilobite

I was looking through some rocks and found this enclosed in the rocks.

Fossil Collector: Grizzlymoore

Location: Frederick County, Virginia

[If there is one, there is probably more! Certainly a trilobite fossil, possibly Phacops. Can any trilobite collectors make a definite ID on this one? Please leave a response.]

A handful of fossil squid

Found in a box of sea shells at a yard sale.

Large blemnite fossil

16 fossil belemnites

I found 16 of these in various sizes at a yard sale mixed into a collection of sea shells so I’m assuming they were originally found on a beach.

Fossil Collector: Mike

Location: Virginia

[Editors note: Well, we had not thought of going fossil collecting at a yard sale, but you seem to have found some goodies. These are fossil belemnites, the internal shells of fossil squid that lived during the Cretaceous Period. They were likely found weathering out of a stream bank or eroded beach cliff. Nice find—keep shopping!]

Stnding by the boat after the James River trip

Dr Ward headed the trip to the James River in Virgina for Mid-Atlantic Fossil and Nature Adventures. A couple of us stand around one of the boats after a great day of hunting. We had stopped about five locations.

A table covered with fossil shells I found on the trip.

Most of the finds that day where the great scallop shells. My haul for the day is pictured. Thanks to Cathy at DVPS for setting up the trip.

Mid-Atlantic Fossil and Nature AdventuresEcphora Miocene shell fossil.

A beautiful large and intact Ecphora found last weekend along the James River in Southeastern VA. This was just one of many cool finds that we collected with the Mid-Atlantic Fossil and Nature Adventures group.
